Start with workload and flow
Show work received, completed and outstanding by process. Add age bands so the dashboard reveals whether the team is keeping pace and whether difficult items are accumulating.
Add quality and exception measures
Track sample accuracy, rework, reopened items and exceptions by cause. Separate provider-controlled issues from client decisions, third-party delays and system outages.
- Received, completed and outstanding volume
- Backlog by age and priority
- Accuracy and rework rate
- Exceptions by cause and owner
- Capacity forecast and peak risk
Use trends to make decisions
A dashboard should show movement over time and explain material changes. Use it to decide whether to update a procedure, add capacity, remove unnecessary steps or resolve an approval bottleneck.
Keep the number of measures limited. A smaller set of trusted definitions is more useful than a large report that nobody can interpret consistently.
